What to expect, step by step

1

You apply

A short prequalification checks your options across multiple lending programs, from prime all the way to second-look. Soft pull first — your score isn’t affected at this stage.

2

You get an answer fast

Most prequalification decisions come back in minutes, showing an amount and an estimated payment.

3

Your contractor reaches out

Within 1 business day, your contractor confirms project details and schedules your free in-home or virtual consultation.

4

You get your Final Quote

The contractor measures, confirms scope, and gives you a firm price. Your financing is matched to the final number.

5

Work begins

In most programs, you make no payments until the job is complete — and most plans have no prepayment penalty if you pay it off early.

Honest answers to fair questions

What if I’m declined again?
Some situations still won’t qualify — we won’t pretend otherwise. If that happens, a decline here comes with guidance on what to improve and an invitation to reapply when your situation changes. Options exist for a wide range of credit situations, but no outcome is guaranteed.
Will this hurt my credit?
Prequalification uses a soft credit inquiry, which does not affect your credit score. If you decide to move forward with a full application, a hard inquiry may be required at that point — you’ll know before it happens.
Am I obligated to move forward?
No. Checking your options, getting an estimate, and even meeting a contractor carries no obligation. You decide if and when to move forward.
How fast can my project start?
Prequalification takes minutes, contractor contact happens within a business day, and scheduling depends on your contractor’s calendar and the season. Many projects go from application to installation in a few weeks.
Does SecondLook Loans lend me the money?
No. SecondLook Loans is not a lender or a broker, makes no credit decisions, and charges you nothing. We connect you with an independent home improvement contractor, and that contractor arranges financing through their own third-party lenders.
What does it cost to use this site?
Nothing. The referral is free to you. Contractors participate in the network; you are never charged a fee for being matched or for submitting your information.

Soft pull vs. hard pull, in plain English

A soft inquiry is a look at your credit that only you can see. Prequalification uses one, and it has no effect on your score at all — you could do it a dozen times today and your score tomorrow would be identical.

A hard inquiry is recorded on your report and can shave a few points off your score temporarily. It happens only when you move forward with a real credit application, and you will be told before it happens. Nothing on this site triggers one.

What the contractor handles, and what we don’t

SecondLook Loans introduces you to a contractor. That is the entire service, and it is free to you. The contractor quotes the work, presents the financing, and submits the actual credit application to their lenders. Every credit decision belongs to those third-party lenders — not to the contractor, and not to us.
